“We’ve grown America’s Alfalfa for more than 10 years. We tend to put faith in products that perform for us and stick with them. The AmeriStand 407TQ we sowed last spring seems to be doing quite well for us; I’ve been satisfied with the yield. In fact, we actually got five cuttings last year from 407TQ. We caught a couple rains off the Chesapeake Bay last year that made the crop.
“We have about 125 acres of alfalfa in a four-year corn/alfalfa rotation. I’m convinced we lose money when we go to five years on an alfalfa stand. We go by the way the stand looks early in the spring. We’ve been strip-farming with a corn/alfalfa rotation for more than 30 years to reduce erosion.”
